Where I'm going with this, I'm not yet sure.  While I want this blog to center on my family history, I'm not sure if that should be autobiographical in nature, genealogical in function and format, or some of both.  But I have to start someplace, and in preparing to set up this personal family journal or blog, I noticed another family historian blogger who started a "52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks" challenge a few years ago, calling on family historians to create one blog page a week highlighting 52 of their ancestors or relatives in a one-year period for posterity's sake.  So rather than face the discomfort in staring in the mirror and beginning with my own life, I'm going to work through my ancestors, one at a time. In that way, I think parts of my own life will be reflected more gradually from their own stories and histories.
